Why is all this here?

sam-129During the writing of Paying Less for College, it became clear that I should quickly put everything I was discovering into a website that would:

    • Encourage students to get better grades and be more involved in activities so they can get into the best colleges and get more in financial aid.

    • Help students get up to $80,000 in guaranteed “micro-scholarships.”

    • Help educate students on how to research, apply to, and choose the right college.

    • Help students research and apply for financial aid and scholarships.

    • Help students’ parents stop stressing out about the process, protect their savings, and earn up to $50,000 in Scholarships for each of their children.

    • Engage Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, God-Parents in an easy way to help students pay for college.I hope these are helpful to you.

Get up to $80,000 in Scholarships For Things You Already Do in High School Anyway

What is this and how does it work?

Participating colleges give you from $10 – $16,000 in scholarships for doing things you are already doing anyway like taking classes, getting As and Bs, participating in sports and extracurricular activities, volunteering, taking SAT/ACT type tests, and college visits.

Why should I do this?

#1 – You get scholarships for things you probably already do in school.
#2 – When you see that when you do better in school you get more scholarship money, you will be motivated to get better grades and be more involved in extracurriculars and your community.
#3 – When you do these things, colleges are more likely to want you to apply.
#4 – When colleges want you to attend their college, they will give you more money.
#5 – When they give you more money, you and your parents don’t have to borrow as much.
#6 – When you pay less for college, you have more money, freedom, and (probably) a happier life.
#7 – When your parents pay less for your college, they have more money for their retirement, health care, and aren’t as unhappy at the end of their lives.

Is this for real?

Yes, it is funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Facebook. 60,000 students from 5,000 schools are participating. It was founded in 2014 which is why you may not have heard of it.

There’s no such thing as something for nothing – so what does everyone get?

You: By signing up today you can get (a) scholarships, (b) information about some awesome colleges you might not know about, and (c) get extra reminders from me and motivation to do well in high school.

Colleges: Colleges are competing very hard for the best students. They need to advertise to Freshmen and Sophomores, and even middle school students. By giving scholarships, they (a) see all the things you are doing way before you apply, and (b) can email you and get your attention.

Sam: I get to help you. I grew up dirt poor and spent 10 years after Yale working with teenagers, middle school students, and their families. I saw how much stress not having enough money created. Have your parents ever argued about money? Did you know financial stress is the #1 cause of divorce? My goal is to make sure you and your parents get to keep more money, so your lives don’t suck later. When you sign up, I get to keep you informed and motivated.
